Secret Superstar, which is slated to release over the Diwali weekend, will look to lock horns with Rohit Shetty’s Golmaal Again.

Helmed by debut director and Aamir Khan’s former manager Advait Chandan, Secret Superstar is the story of an aspiring singer. It stars Zaira Wasim, Meher Vij, Raj Arjun and Tirth Sharma. Meher Vij who is still well remembered for her portrayal of a Kashmiri woman in Bajrangi Bhaijaan, plays Zaira’s mother in the movie. Not only is Aamir Khan producing the film under his banner, he also auditioned for a quirky role and an extended cameo in it. When asked about his role in the movie, Aamir gave a unique answer, “It’s an interesting character. Dal mein jo tadka hota hai na, mera character woh tadka hai. The look is the creative call of Advait. He has picked it up from the crowd. The character is very different, I have never ever in my life played this kind of a role.” The film sees him reuniting with his Dangal on-screen daughter Zaira, who recently won a National Film Award for her performance in Dangal. The ‘Star’ team also recently revealed that 16-year-old Meghna Mishra, who marks her singing debut in Bollywood, has crooned the vocals for the film’s first hit track ‘Main kaun hoon’ – composed by Amit Trivedi.

Initially titled ‘Aaj Phir Jeene Ki Tamanna Hai’, a source reveals that director Advait Chandan had borrowed the film’s title from the iconic song immortalised by Lata Mangeshkar in Vijay Anand’s Waheeda Rehman-Dev Anand starrer Guide (1967). Instead, it will now release as Secret Superstar. Aamir Khan also promises to slowly unveil more secrets about the film. With practically an in-house team in place, Secret Superstar has all the sightings of becoming a successful musical film.
